Castle and Basin Peaks Bag. Loop hike with 12 miles RT and 2,100 feet of gain. Our first stop will be the famous (triple) Castle Peak. Then we'll follow the cliffside saddle trail over to Basin Peak. State Line Peak Dayhike. We will ascend State Line Peak in the Ft. Sage Mountains north of Reno. This hike will be about 3,000 feet of gain and 10 miles RT, with about 70 percent off-trail. November 7 (Saturday) 8:00-4:00 PM
Mt. Davidson Dayhike. First in a series of the highest peaks in local mountain ranges; Mt. Davidson is in the Virginia Range overlooking Virginia City. Hike is about 7 miles in a loop with about 1,000 feet of gain. Portions off-trail, steep, with brush. See a segment of one of the old wooden flumes which brought water to VC. ND. November 8 (Sunday) 8:30-4:00 PM
Horse Thief Canyon Dayhike. Come out and enjoy the last of the fall season in an area known for aspen bursting with color. The beginning of the hike is steep with water cascading nearby in the creek. We will lunch on some rocks that overlook the entire canyon. Hike is about 8 miles and 2,000 feet of gain. Optional stop at Grover's Hot Springs afterward. DOK. Lost Without a Leader? Map and Compass class. Would you literally be lost without a leader? Come on this beginning map and compass class and learn the basic outdoor skills. Part "classroom", then an easy, local hike to the top of Rattlesnake Mountain to put skills into practice. Bad weather cancels. Trip limit 10. DOK. Leader: David Book (843-6443). Easy.
November 15 (Sunday) 8:30-3:00 PM
North on TRT from Spooner Summit. We'll follow the TRT northward (ascending 1,000 feet from Spooner Summit) for several miles, taking advantage of several interesting off-trail viewpoints and photo opportunities of Lake Tahoe. This trail is rather low, generally between 7,000 to 8,000 feet, so we'll find very little snow, if any. Trip is about 8-9 miles RT and 1,000 feet gain). DOK. Cleaver Peak Dayhike. Second in a series of highest peaks in local mountain ranges: Cleaver Peak in the Desert Mountains near Silver Springs. Hike is about 7 miles RT and 1,500 feet of gain. Fort Churchill Loop Dayhike. We'll park at the entrance to Fort Churchill State Park and follow a trail that will take us to the fort. We'll spend a little time exploring the old Fort buildings before we go down to the Carson River and follow a trail along there and back to the highway and the cars. Trip is about 6 miles RT and no elevation gain. DOK on leash. Leader: Donna Inversin (775-315-6763). Easy.

Outings Meeting. Calling all Outings Leaders and those who are interested in learning about Outings! Join us for a fun social event that helps us generate all these great outings everyone enjoys. Ophir Creek Overlook Dayhike. A moderately easy 5 mile RT to an overlook which is seldom visited. It puts us about 600 feet (our total hike's ascent) above where Ophir Creek starts to descend toward Washoe Lake, 3,200 feet below. We'll be on the southbound TRT for most of the hike. DOK.
