Program Meeting: The Bats of Nevada. Nevada Dept. of Wildlife biologist, Jenni Jeffers, will tell us everything you ever wanted to know about the bats of Nevada at the Great Basin Group's next program meeting in September. Did you know that there are 23 species of bats in Nevada or that Reno has one of the largest bat colonies in the state? Or, that bats eat thousands of mosquitos each night and fewer than half of one-percent contract rabies? Using radio telemetry and night vision equipment, Jenni has conducted extensive research to learn about their foraging, hibernation, migration, and roosting locations. At the meeting you'll learn about her research and the measures that the NDOW is taking to help protect Nevada's rapidly dwindling bat population. All programs are free and open to the public. For more information, contact Valerie Andersen at (775) 828-0302. Date: Sept. 10 Time: 7:00 social, 7:30 Program. Location: Bartley Ranch Regional Park, Reno.
