About Regional Air Service

In late 2005, the plan to bring in large aircraft was abandoned and a proct team was created to bring in regional ari service, hopefully by December 2006, now slipped to early 2008 at least

Two of the candiate aircraft appear in the photos to the right. These aircraft are small enough that many of the airport layouit issues do not exist, but there are still some issues remaining.

To make this work, a number of problems must be solved

  • The FAA as well as any airline must approve the airport layout plan. Even for the small aircraft shown, the existing airport does not meet all the layout specifications for such aircraft. Hoping for waivers does not assure success.
  • Certification and later operation requires a number of time-consuming tasks and expenditures even if no paving is done. But FAA fundung cannot be obtained until the property issues described in theis history are resolved.
  • The Town must complete both a federal and state environemental review on the new proposal, which must include treatment of the points raised in the federal lawsuit. This process, which includes reviews of property transfers and leases, is taking several years.
